Description
Harnett County Tax Department will host a series of public meetings during the month of February to provide an update to the public on the County’s 2022 Reappraisal efforts.
The County partnered with Vincent Valuations, a private Reappraisal Firm, to conduct the 2022 Reappraisal. The Reappraisal included a full measure and list off all real properties in Harnett County.
Field appraisers began collecting data on each property in Summer 2019, and moved to the value modeling phase in the Spring of 2021. A review of each property will be concluded by the end of this month.
The Harnett County Tax Department will host five in-person meetings and three virtual meetings beginning February 1, with the final meeting scheduled for February 28, to update residents on the Reappraisal process and how property values were assessed locally.
Individuals interested in attending the virtual meetings must pre-register using the links provided above.
“We invite the public to attend any of our public meetings,” stated Tyson. “We want to make sure that our property owners have a complete understanding of the Reappraisal process and have an opportunity to ask questions about the impacts they will see from the Reappraisal.
The North Carolina General Statutes require that every County complete the reappraisal process at intervals of no more than eight years. Based on the recommendation of the North Carolina Department of Revenue, the Harnett County Board of Commissioners adopted a resolution to move to a four-year reappraisal cycle in October 2018. The last reappraisal in Harnett County was in 2017. Due to time limitations, the Reappraisal was moved from 2021 to 2022.
This Spring, property owners will receive a notice in the mail showing any changes in assessed value as a result of the 2022 Reappraisal. Property owners who do not believe that the assessed value is a reasonable estimate for which their property could sell in an open market as of January 1, 2022, have the right to appeal the value.
