Description
The Community Appearance Committee and City of Dunn will host a Spring Litter Sweep on Saturday, May 8, 2021. The community clean-up will begin with a kickoff at 8:30 a.m. at City Hall, 401 E Broad St. After receiving safety vests, gloves and trash bags, volunteers will then head out to clean up various locations around the city.
Plans are for volunteers to be in place, picking up litter from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. The City is hosting the litter sweep in conjunction with the County’s Keep Harnett Beautiful campaign and the NCDOT Litter Sweep.
With the pandemic, many cities across the state and nation have seen an increase of litter and Dunn has not been immune. At the first meetings of the newly formed Community Appearance Committee, litter was a main concern. According to Chairman Meredith Bradham, “committee members felt that the litter in Dunn must be addressed and in addition to the Spring Litter Sweep an anti-litter “Every Litter Bit Hurts” campaign will also be established to help educate and bring awareness to putting litter in its place, which is not on our streets.”
Volunteers are needed for the Spring Litter Sweep. To find out more about the cleanup and how you can volunteer yourself, family, club, scout troop, church or business, visit the city’s website at www.cityofdunn.org or by calling 910-230-3500.
