Central Baptist Church will host award-winning southern gospel group, The Nelons, on Sunday, February 21 in concert at 9:00am and in the worship service at 10:00am.
The Nelons was started by founding member Rex Nelon as The Rex Nelon Singers in 1977. The group introduced songs such as “Come Morning”, “We Shall Wear a Robe and Crown” and “O For A Thousand Tongues”. Over time the group became known as The Nelons, including such as talent as Karen Peck, Janet Paschal and Charlotte Ritchie. The Nelons have been nominated for or received Dove Awards, Singing News Awards and Grammys throughout their history. They continue to travel extensively including being part of the Gaither Homecoming Tour and a recent appearance on the Grand Ole Opry.
Today’s group includes Rex Nelon’s daughter, Kelly Nelon Clark and husband, Jason Clark, and granddaughters Amber Kistler and Autumn Clark. Jason’s musicianship and his ability to arrange infectious harmonies, along with Kelly’s breathtaking alto, Amber’s soaring soprano, and Autumn’s folksy vocal tone offers a captivating blend of gospel, a cappella, hymns, Americana, folk, and inspirational music.
The Nelons will leave you encouraged by the message of hope shared from their hearts, warmed by the love of family you feel from the stage, and inspired by the beauty, purity, and majesty of each lyric they sing. They combine the best of a variety of genres, in a way that unifies every audience, bridging the generational gap of the young and old. This is great music you won’t want to miss!
