Description
The Harnett County Board of Commissioners will hold a note burning ceremony Monday, June 19 to celebrate making the final payment on the Harnett County Courthouse. The ceremony will take place at 5:30 p.m. on the steps of the Harnett County Courthouse at 301 W. Cornelius Harnett Blvd., Lillington. Past and present commissioners and county leaders are invited to attend this celebratory event. The public is also invited to attend.
The Harnett County Courthouse opened in 2002 in the Harnett County Governmental Complex, which also houses the Harnett County Tax Office, Register of Deeds, GIS, Health Department, Social Services and the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office. In 2009, the courthouse won a merit award in a design competition for the Eastern Section of the state chapter of the American Institute of Architects. In the decade and a half since the courthouse opened, it has become an iconic symbol of Harnett County.
